Barack Obama hesitantly raised his hand and joined with most of his Democratic rivals to declare that he opposed decriminalizing marijuana. But as a candidate for the U.S. Senate four years ago, Mr. Obama told Illinois college students that he supported eliminating criminal penalties for marijuana use or possession, according to a videotape of a little noticed debate that was obtained by The Washington Times. |

Feds may have to reimburse marijuana grower |

A Fairbanks man whose multimillion-dollar marijuana growing operation was disbanded in the early 1990s is poised to be reimbursed for hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of property seized by the federal government. The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals recently ruled that John Collette did not receive proper notice for items confiscated, including two aircraft, a dump truck, snowmachines, a computer and more than $40,000 from bank accounts, according to court documents. |

Two state lawmakers introduce comprehensive medical marijuana legislation, called the "Jacki Rickert Medical Marijuana Act." That legislation, cosponsored by Representatives Frank Boyle (D-Superior) and Mark Pocan (D-Madison), is similar to laws already in 12 states. It would allow patients with debilitating medical conditions to have access to marijuana to ease their pain. Jacki Rickert is in severe pain, and had discovered that cannabis really works for her. |
